6 year old Monty is a Patterdale terrier. This handsome boy loves a cuddle!
Monty has not had the life most of us would consider normal for a dog. He has been deprived of socialising, training and exercise. When he arrived he had no focus, direction or purpose. He is having to learn that he is a dog. Bred to work, his natural hunting instincts have had no outlet. He doesn’t recognise other species or their scents (we are working on this), instead all his energy is channelled into reacting negatively to other dogs. In short, he had no idea what he is, or why he even exists.
We have worked patiently with Monty to develop focus, and to get him walking on the lead. His reaction to other dogs is not quite as extreme as it was.
Although work is ongoing with Monty, we now feel he can start looking for his forever home.
New owners should be willing and able to continue training, and will need to have time, patience and commitment. Monty still doesn’t understand the wider environment, and due to the level of deprivation he has experienced, he may never fully grasp what others take for granted.
Monty will need to be the only pet in his home, with a very secure garden.
So much has gone wrong for poor Monty. Could you hold the key to a brighter future for him?
