Meat eaten by dog out for a walk was laced with rat poison to kill pets say police

Dog owners in Cornwall have been put on alert after fears that somebody purposefully put rat poison in meat which was later eaten by a dog.

One reported case took place while the pet dog was walking in the Paul area of Penzance at some point between Friday and Saturday (February 16 and 17).

Devon and Cornwall Police has now issued an urgent warning to dog owners as officers continue to investigate the worrying issue.

“We have received a report of rat poison, believed to have been contained within mince meat, being eaten by a dog while out on a walk in the Paul area of Penzance between Friday 16 and Saturday, February 17, 2018,” said a spokesman for the force.

The police added that if anyone has any information which may relate to this they should email 101@dc.police.uk or phone 101, quoting crime CR/015023/18.
